There are friends who are companions at your table, but they won’t stay during hard times.
And there is a friend a companion at the table, and he will not abide in the day of distress.
Others will sit at your table as long as things are going well; they will stick to you like your shadow and give orders to your servants, but they will not stand by you in trouble.
Others are friends, table companions, but they cannot be found in time of affliction.
And still another will be your guest at table but will not stand by you in time of trouble.
And there are friends who sit at your table, but they will not stand by you in time of trouble.

Forsooth there is a friend, (a) fellow of (the) table, and (he) dwelleth not in the day of need. [There is forsooth a friend, fellow of the board, and abideth not still in the day of need.]
